ATHAG attends PITAHC forum on traditional, complementary, and alternative medicine research

QUEZON CITY, Philippines-Recognizing the important role of research in the preservation and promotion of the Hilot healing tradition, the Association of Traditional Health Aid Givers Philippines, Inc. (ATHAG) attended the national research forum on traditional, complementary and alternative medicine conducted by the Philippine Institute for Traditional and Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) on November 24, 2014 at the PITAHC Conference Room in Diliman.

During the forum, PITAHC Executive Director Dr. Isidro Sia gave the opening remarks and presented the PITAHC research framework. Dr. Francis Vicente Ras introduced the participants and gave an overview of the activity.

Dr. Jessica de Leon presented a proposed taxonomy of Traditional Medicine and Complementary and Alternative Medicine (TM/CAM) used in the Philippines.  Dr. Michael Tan talked about the documentation of Philippine Traditional Knowledge on Health, Disease, and Healing.

Dr. Antonio Ligsay and Dr. Jennifer Madamba gave brief reports on natural products research in the Philippines and TM/CAM research in the Philippines, respectively.  Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan presented innovative research methodologies for TM/CAM.

The last presentation, on the technical and ethical challenges of innovative research methodologies for TM/CAM,  was given by Prof. Cynthia Cordero. An open forum was facilitated for participants who wanted to ask questions.
