LOS BANOS, Laguna- A seminar on Hilot for reproductive health was conducted for faculty and personnel of the UP Open University as part of their Wellness Program on April 19, 2017. The program was held at the Sandbox, Centennial Center for Digital Learning, UP Open University, Los Banos, Laguna.
Prof. Finaflor F. Taylan, the Director for the Office of Gender Concerns, which hosted the activity, gave the opening remarks. Prof. Marie-Sol P. Hidalgo introduced Albularyo Bibiano “Boy” S. Fajardo.
Albularyo Boy Fajardo gave the attendees a brief overview of Hilot in general, and its traditional applications for reproductive health for both women and men. He discussed indicators of reproductive imbalances for both women and men, and discussed how these are addressed using traditional Hilot techniques, medicinal plants ,and, in some cases, orasyon. After the talk, Prof. Rita Ramos, Chairperson of the Health and Wellness Committee, gave the closing remarks.
After the brief lecture, participants eagerly waited for their turn to experience Hilot from ATHAG manghihilot Karen Marcelo and Yolanda Pedrigal. A space was set up at the corner of the venue where they could experience for themselves the relief that Hilot brings. The participants gave very positive feedback after their Hilot session.
